Learning Journeys (Beta)

Overview

Learning Journeys transform traditional course lists into an interactive, visual experience. Instead of navigating through static modules, learners explore a custom-designed map where courses and content are embedded as interactive elements.

This feature allows you to create a structured, engaging learning path that feels more like a guided experience than a standard program.

What is a Learning Journey?

A Learning Journey is a visual map (such as a landscape, floor plan, or process diagram) enhanced with interactive hotspots. These hotspots can:

  • Launch courses
  • Display media (videos or images)
  • Provide additional context through text

This creates a more immersive and intuitive way for learners to progress through a program.

Enable Learning Journeys

Learning Journeys are currently in Beta and must be enabled for your workspace.

To use this feature:

  1. Go to Configuration
  2. Open a Program
  3. In the Segment Picker, select Learning Journey (instead of Any or Ordered)
  4. A new configuration tab for map setup will appear

If you do not see this option, contact your Skillhabit Account Manager to enable the feature.

Set Up Your Map (Canvas)

To ensure the best experience across devices, you can upload different versions of your map:

  • Desktop Map – optimized for larger screens
  • Mobile Map – optimized for vertical viewing

If only one version is uploaded, Skillhabit will automatically scale the image to fit the user’s screen.

Add Hotspots

Once your map is uploaded, you can place interactive hotspots directly on it.

Types of hotspots

  • Course hotspots – link to courses within the program
  • Media hotspots – display videos or images
  • Text hotspots – provide additional explanations or storytelling

How to place hotspots

  • Click directly on the map where you want the hotspot to appear
  • Configure the content or course linked to that position

Learner Experience

When a learner starts a Learning Journey, the map becomes their main interface.

  • Overlay learning – Courses open on top of the map when selected
  • Seamless return – When a course is completed or closed, the learner returns to the exact same position on the map

This ensures learners always maintain context and progression within the journey.

Permissions

The Learning Journey feature is available to:

  • Workspace Administrators
  • Editors with access to the Configuration app

Note: The feature must be enabled (Beta) for your workspace.

Best Practices

  • Upload both desktop and mobile maps to ensure hotspots are easy to interact with on all devices
  • Design a clear visual path (e.g., a road, timeline, or staircase) to guide learners naturally
  • Use text hotspots for storytelling to connect courses into a cohesive experience

Availability

Learning Journeys are currently available as a Beta feature for Professional and Enterprise workspaces.

To enable this feature, contact your Skillhabit Account Manager.
